Dhikr #00

Introduction

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem

Assalaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah Wa Barakatuh

Hello my fellow brothers and sisters, we begin another chapter in this non-ending journey, Dhikr for The Soul.

What is Dhikr?

  • Dhikr, or remembrance of Allah, comprises of two main ideas: movement of your tongue and its effects in your heart. It should not only be felt as movement of your tongue, but also felt deep in your heart.
  • Uttering the blessed words of “Subhan Allah” , “Alhamdu lillah” and “Allahu Akbar” is, of course, in itself a bounty. But when you become deeply engaged in the Dhikr of Allah, you are able to truly feel the pureness and love of Allah and His religion.
  • Dhikr not only resonates with the specific words, but in a wider scope, accommodates the recitation of the Quran, spreading kindness, and speaking good of others. From this, we learn that any good deed with the right intention is a form of Dhikr.

Allah mentions those who remember Him through Dhikr specifically in Surah Ali ‘Imran, verse 181:

“Who remember Allah while standing or sitting or (lying) on their sides and give thought to the creation of the heavens and the earth, (saying), ‘Our Lord, You did not create this aimlessly; exalted are You (above such a thing); then protect us from the punishment of the Fire’”

And our Prophet Muhammad SAW said:

“Shall I not inform you of the best of your actions, the purest in the sight of your Lord, which raises your rank to the highest, which is better for you than spending gold and silver, better than meeting your enemy so that you strike at their necks and they strike at yours?’ They replied: ‘Yes, indeed,’ and he said: ‘It is the remembrance of Allah’”(Tirmidhi).

This series will focus on trying to remind and teach us all on Dhikr at a time from both The Holy Quran & some Ahaadeeth with some backstory to each and also their benefits. Will also include some transliterations for easy reading from the Arabic language and of course translations.

Without further ado, let’s begin!!! Hope you benefit and enjoy!!! Ciao!!!

Dhikr #01

Quranic Dhikr #01 (Chapter 1, Verses 1-7)

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem

Assalaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah Wa Barakatuh

Hello & welcome back my fellow brothers and sisters. Today’s Dhikr is an entire Surah from the Holy Quran. You guessed it right, it’s Suratul Fatiha (The Opening). I have already written a Hadith series on this Suratul, you can find it in the link below:

https://weheartit.com/articles/350913072-the-hadith-series-part-74?

Suratul Fatiha is the most famous Dhikr in Islamic history with the 3 Quls of course.

Our Prophet instruct us to read this Surah when we are about to go to sleep, when we wake up, and of course in every since unit of prayer and in many circumstances that if I were to enumerate them we will never finish.

Without further ado, let’s begin.

Transliteration:

“Bismil Allahi arrahmani arraheem. Alhamdu lillahi rabbi alAAalameen. Arrahmani arraheem. Maliki yawmi addeen. Iyyaka naAAbudu wa-iyyaka nastaAAeen. Ihdina assirata almustaqeem. Sirata allatheena anAAamta AAalayhim ghayri almaghdoobi AAalayhim wala addalleen.”

Translation:

“In the name of Allah , the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful. [All] praise is [due] to Allah , Lord of the worlds. The Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful. Sovereign of the Day of Recompense. It is You we worship and You we ask for help. Guide us to the straight path. The path of those upon whom You have bestowed favour, not of those who have evoked [Your] anger or of those who are astray”

Benefits:

Allah responds to the believer when he recites Surah Al-Fatiah. Abu Hurayrah (R.A) who said that the Messenger of Allah (Peace and Blessings of Allaah be upon him) said “Allah, the Glorious and Exalted said, “I have divided the prayer between myself and my servant equally and my servant shall be granted what he asked for”. [Sahih Muslim]

So try as hard as you can to memorize (with awesome tajweed & vocalization), understand and teach this Surah to the best of your ability.

I hope this helps us all.

Dhikr #05

Quranic Dhikr #03 (Chapter 2, Verse 67)

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem

Assalaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah Wa Barakatuh

Hello & welcome back my fellow brothers and sisters. Today’s Dhikr is a verse from the Holy Quran, it says:

Arabic Text:

“…أَعُوذُ بِٱللَّهِ أَنْ أَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلْجَٰهِلِينَ.”

Transliteration:

”…aAAoothu biAllahi an akoona mina aljahileena..”

Translation:

“…I seek refuge in Allah from being among the ignorant or the foolish.”

Tafseer:

This du’a was done by Prophet Musa (ASW) when he told his people (the Children of Israel) that Allah commanded them to slaughter a cow and they said to him “do you make fun of us?”

So why were they asked to slaughter a cow?

The Story of the murdered Israeli man and the cow

What’s the moral of the story and du’a?
  • That when Allah commands you to do something you do it!!! Period!!!
  • The Children of Israeli questioned and demand the description of the cow and were given the description of the most rarest cow, if not because they said “InShaaAllah” they would never have found it. Apart from that the hen they did find the cow they had to k on at a heft sum of money to get it. If they had just slaughtered a cow when they were asked to they wouldn’t have gone through all that trouble but this is a lesson for the future generations(us) to learn from.
  • That nobody is above making a mistake, as you can see here Prophet Musa is the one making this du’a because he is human and only Allah (SAW) can guide him and us too. As we all know the imaan fluctuates, so also make this du’a to not be among the ignorant or foolish.

Dhikr #06

Dhikr from ahaadeeth #03 (Abu Dawood Book 4 hadith 324)

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem

Assalaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah Wa Barakatuh

Hello & welcome back my fellow brothers and sisters. Today’s Dhikr is from ahaadeeth.

Pronunciation:

”Allahumma ma aas’baha bee min nia’matin, Wa bi-ahadin min khalqik, Faminka wahdaka la shareeka lak, Falakal-hamdu walakash-shukr”

Translation:

”O Allah, what blessing I or any of Your creation have risen upon, is from You alone, without partner, so for You is all praise and unto You all thanks”

Benefit:

“The Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, “Whoever says this in the morning has indeed offered his day’s thanks and whoever says this in the evening has indeed offered his night’s thanks”.

Allah says in the Qur’an, “Indeed if you are grateful and give thanks, surely, definitely I will increase you; but if you are ungrateful, then know that my punishment is indeed most severe” [Sura Ibrahim verse.7]
